Introducing the NEW PurgEye® Desk Weld Purge Monitor®

This month we are launching the PurgEye® 500 Desk to the Press. This is a heavily updated version of the old PurgEye® 500 Weld Purge Monitor®.

The addition of PurgeNet™ makes it ideal for use with Welding Chambers and Enclosures as well as Orbital Welding Machines and other Automatic Welding Systems.

Other features include:
  • Measuring oxygen levels from 1,000ppm down to 1 ppm (accurate to 10 ppm).
  • OLED (organic light emitting diode) display giving brighter, sharper readings.
  • Heavier protection from high frequency interference.
  • Electro-mechanical pump for extracting gas samples, delivering a constant flow over the sensor.
  • Audible alarm indicates low and high oxygen levels.
  • Extra long life faster reaction sensor.
  • PurgeNet™ for connecting to NEW smart accessories.
  • PurgeLog™ data logging software.
  • Suitable for welds in ultra clean conditions in industries such as aerospace, semi-conductor, pharmaceutical, vacuum and petrochemical.

Seven Tips for Weld Purging

Weld Purging is the act of removing oxygen within the vicinity of a joint before, during and after welding, especially when joining metals such as stainless steel, titanium and zirconium.
We have recently put together an article on Seven Tips for Weld Purging, to ensure you achieve those sought after, oxide free, zero colour welds time and time again.

Prevent Inflatable Systems Bursting with PurgeGate®

Many Inflatable Tube and Pipe Weld Purging Systems are at risk of over-inflating during the weld purging process. As the heat caused by welding rises, the inflatable dams can expand beyond their safe limits and in addition, other personnel working near the welding area can vary the gas flow or pressure at random, causing over-inflation and bursting.

Once a burst occurs, the purge is lost and the weld will immediately oxidise in the presence of incoming air. The welder will then have to cease welding, grind out the oxidation and start the whole process again. On pipes below 36” diameter, the inside may not be accessible and the total joint may need to be cut out, leading to lengthy delays and high add-on costs.

To prevent such bursts, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® has designed and now manufactures a PurgeGate® Valve System in order to prevent any over-pressurising of Inflatable Tube and Pipe Weld Purging Systems.

Single Ended for Closing Welds

Typically for closure welds, tight bends, T piece joints and dome end connections where a conventional Tandem Weld Purging System cannot be used, a range of low cost, single ended Inflatable Weld Purge Dams is available for pipe diameters from 6 to 96 inches (150 mm up to 2,440 mm).

These lightweight systems are easy to inflate and are heat resistant up to 90ºC (194ºF).
