Wire plus Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM)

24W FlexibleWeldingEnclosuresAdditive Manufacturing itself is great for Flexible Welding Enclosures® use where parts can be manufactured by just welding thin layers of powder or liquid metal drops to each other to build ready made components, where frequently the components were made out of solid, with lots of machining and loss of material that is wasted machining it away.

Keep an Eye on your Weld Purge

06W-PurgEye300-Nano-WeldPurgeMonitorFor many years, oxygen monitors and gas analysers have been used for weld purging. These instruments have been designed and calibrated for accuracy at atmospheric oxygen level, but not for weld purging where accuracy is required when reading much lower oxygen levels.

In the 1970’s, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® invented the Weld Purge Monitor®, an essential instrument to monitor oxygen levels when welding metals such as stainless steel, titanium and nickel alloy where a high quality, non-oxidised, zero colour weld is required.

With their scientific background, HFT® have designed and manufactured the PurgEye® 300 Nano, the World’s first and only low cost, no frills, Weld Purge Monitor® that measures accurately down to 10 parts per million (ppm) on a large alpha numeric display.

Ron Sewell, Chairman for HFT® said: “The PurgEye® 300 Nano has been developed for weld purging where data logging, alarms and welder control are not necessarily required. It is small, lightweight and inexpensive. There are no knobs, no switches, no controls, making this a really simple, ‘plug and play’ monitor.”

The use of Water Soluble Weld Purge Film® for Pipe Purging

13W-SolubleWeldPurgeFilmWhen tubes and pipes of certain materials, such as stainless steel, titanium, copper-nickel and zirconium are welded together it is desirable to purge the oxygen out of the inside of the weld zone to prevent it from reacting with the hot metal and causing oxidation, porosity, discolouration and loss of corrosion resistance.

Some high integrity products available for purging the insides of pipes, include Inflatable Tube and Pipe Purging Systems: PurgElite®, QuickPurge® and HotPurge®. It is not always practical however to use such systems for one off, never to be repeated work on just a few joints of one particular size, for closing welds, for ‘T’ piece joints or for a number of other branch type joints.

To overcome this difficulty, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® provides Argweld® Weld Purge Film® kits, with water-soluble materials that can be used for open assemblies and closing welds. The film produces an impenetrable purge barrier that can easily be washed away when hydrostatically testing the pipe or just by flushing out.

Freeze Sealing for Pipe Repairs with Qwik-Freezer™

07W-Qwik-Freeze-Pipe-FreezingFreeze sealing pipes for repair or maintenance is an increasingly popular alternative to ‘hot-tapping’ and eliminates the need to shut or drain down a system for repairs and maintenance. These systems work by creating ice plugs (or ‘freeze seals’) either upstream of the repair site or on either side of an area where a pipe system needs to be maintained.

The HFT® Pipestoppers® division manufactures Qwik-Freezer™, the industry standard portable CO2 Pipe Freezing System. With thousands of kits in use around the world for over 40 years, Qwik-Freezer™ covers pipe diameters from 3/8” – 8” (9 – 200 mm).

Qwik-Freezer™ is very quick and easy to use, requires almost no set-up time and is the only CO2 Pipe Freezing System capable of freezing up to 8” pipe. Even for smaller diameter freezes, Qwik-Freezer™ produces ice plugs that are significantly more reliable and robust, capable of withstanding far more pressure than the smaller plugs that other types of systems will produce.

Chamber of Commerce Business Awards 2015

AWARDSFINALIST LOGOWe are excited to announce that we are finalists for the South Wales Chamber of Commerce Welsh Business Awards 2015 in the Success through Overseas Trade category. Thirty-six businesses across Wales are nominated in ten categories and we are thrilled to be one of them.

The winners will be announced at the Welsh Business Awards Dinner on Thursday 25th February 2016 at the National Museum Cardiff which is being hosted by Welsh television presenter Gethin Jones.

The awards aim to recognise the achievements of well-established businesses as well as newcomers in the market. This is the fourteenth consecutive year the Welsh Business Awards will take place. Wish us luck!

Argon Hose for Your Weld Purging System

07W-Argweld-Argon-Gas-Feed-HoseIt is important when welding metals such as stainless steel, titanium and zirconium that the welding zone is purged of oxygen even as low as 10 parts per million (ppm) before, during and immediately after welding, in order to achieve a clean, oxide free, zero colour weld.

Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® now manufactures tailor made Argon Gas Feed Hose assemblies with leak tight fittings to attach immediately to their Argweld® range of Inflatable Tube and Pipe Weld Purging Systems at one end and to the gas source at the other.

Luke Keane, Distributor Support for HFT® said: “These special, high quality Argon Gas Feed Hoses, which can also be used for transporting nitrogen come complete with end fittings, providing welders with a guaranteed leak tight method of feeding non contaminated argon gas to their weld zone.”

Do not put your Welds at Risk

03W-InflatableWeldPurgeDamsFor closure welds, tight bends, T piece joints and dome end connections where a conventional Tandem Weld Purging System cannot be used, a range of low cost, single ended Inflatable Weld Purge Dams is available from Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT®.

Manufactured for pipe diameters from 6 to 96 inches (150 mm up to 2,440 mm) these lightweight systems are easy to inflate and are heat resistant up to 90oC (194oF).

Ron Sewell, Chairman at Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® said: “Even today, many companies are still allowing their technicians to spend many hours fabricating dams made of foam, cardboard, adhesive tape, wood and so on. Like paper, these materials contain a high percentage of water and water is very undesirable to have in the presence of a weld.

Out with the Old and In with the New

Purge-Monitor-APM5-PHO-12WWeld Purge Monitors® are an essential instrument to help obtain non-oxidised, zero colour welds by monitoring the oxygen content, ideal when purging with inert gas, when welding metals such as stainless steel, titanium and nickel alloy where a high quality weld is required.

Advancing in the science of manufacturing beyond other designs, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT®’s market leading PurgEye® 100 can help to eliminate the post weld cleaning costs. It is these costs that otherwise make the high cost of each weld ultra significant.

Michaela Reay, Marketing Associate for HFT® said: “The PurgEye® 100 is our low cost, IP65 rated, hand held unit, which reads from atmospheric level (20.94%) down to 100 parts per million (ppm). The PurgEye® 100 replaces our previous, out of date MKV monitor, which some companies are still using today.”

New MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrode Ingredients

06W MultiStrikesTungstenElectrodesRecognising the risk to health posed by the radio toxic red tipped thoriated tungsten electrodes that are in wide use in the welding industry, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® have developed MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes that are free from the potentially harmful thoria.

With non-radio toxic rare earth elements, MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes can be used for welding aluminium with the AC process as well as steels and alloys with the DC process.

MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes contain a mix of non-radioactive rare earth elements, which dramatically lower the working temperature of the tungsten, so making it longer lasting than all other tungsten electrodes used for TIG and Plasma welding.
