Smallest Ever Weld Trailing Shield®

54W-WeldTrailingShieldsWhen welding titanium using the GTAW / TIG process, the gas shield from the welding torch needs extending for protection from oxidation and for productivity. Although welders will use a larger than normal gas cup to provide a big surface area of protection, this still limits the speed at which they can move the welding torch.

To provide additional surface protection and in order to weld faster, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® manufacture a range of Weld Trailing Shields®, effectively long gas cups fixed onto and dragged along behind the welding torch, which ensures the weld remains under an argon gas shield until the metal has cooled below its oxidation temperature.

Ron Sewell, Chairman for HFT® said: “Professionally manufactured Weld Trailing Shields® are usually around 100 – 150 mm long as standard, with specials for automatic welding being as long as 450 mm (17”), although many applications require smaller Weld Trailing Shields®.

When the temperature rises, protect your Weld Purging System with new Heat Resistant Covers

Argweld-Heat-Resistant-Covers-PHO-01WWeld Purging is essential when welding metal tubes and pipes made from stainless steel, titanium and zirconium, in order to achieve non-oxidised, zero colour welds.

Damaging or bursting the inflatable dams on your Tube and Pipe Weld Purging System due to exposure to high temperatures can be a thing of the past now with Argweld® Heat Resistant Covers available from Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT®.

Luke Keane, Distributor Support for HFT® said: “As we manufacture the HotPurge® System from 6” upwards, to be used for heated pipework up to 760ºC, we decided to make a much lower cost option for companies who were only concerned about overheating the unprotected dams on our PurgElite® and PurgExtra® Systems.

Increase Weld Purge Monitor® Sensor Life Significantly

PurgEye-API100-PHO-S06WThe PurgEye® 100 Weld Purge Monitor® has a unique sensor, which measures the precise oxygen level being drawn across it.

A sensor is provided with the PurgEye® 100 and replacement sensors are available in their sealed packages.

You may have noticed that your replacement PurgEye® 100 sensors are being shipped in new packaging. The packaging is a way to increase the sensor life significantly.

The sensors are packaged inside a small, sealed compartment to prevent oxygen from entering, keeping it inert until the package is opened for use. Once a tiny amount of oxygen inside the sealed volume has been consumed, a partial vacuum has been created leaving the residual atmospheric nitrogen behind that protects the sensor.

The new packing of the PurgEye® 100 sensors ensures the average life is raised dramatically.

PurgExtra® Tube and Pipe Purging System

08W-PurgExtra-PipeWeldPurgeSystemWeld purging is essential when welding metal tubes and pipes made from titanium, ultra high purity stainless steel joints and just as important when welding those less critical stainless steel and copper nickel pipe joints, in order to achieve non-oxidised, zero colour welds.

PurgExtra® is the latest weld purging product released by Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® for the purging of tube and pipe joints from 1 – 24” ø. This range complements the PurgElite® series, but has extra purge gas inlets and corresponding exhaust ports.

Luke Keane, Distributor Support for HFT® said: “The PurgExtra® System allows the operator to purge at recommended rates initially and then when it would be an advantage, to introduce additional purge gas to create the desired results. Typical applications are for extra inert gas with titanium welds to achieve the lower oxygen levels required for welding that material, which would be around 20 parts per million.

Keep a Distant 'Eye' on Your Purge

06W-PurgEye1000Remote-WeldPurgeMonitorWhen welding lengths of tube and pipework fabrications, as well as sections of pipelines of 20 metres length and more, one problem operators face is not receiving a fast and true weld purge reading from the purge zone.

Now, for the first time, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® makes it possible to have an immediate reading of the weld purge gas at the underside of the joint, from any distance up to 1,000 metres away with their PurgEye® 1000 Weld Purge Monitor®.

Luke Keane, Distributor Support for HFT® said: “By using a zirconia sensor in a remote module placed at the purge gas exhaust, really close to the weld, it is possible to instantaneously receive actual oxygen readings down to 10 ppm (0.001%) up to 1,000 metres away.”

This technology is the latest in the Family Range of Weld Purge Monitors® brought to the marketplace by Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT®.

Ensure your Weld Purging System doesn't burst

08W-PurgeGate-Valves-Weld-Purge-ControlMany Inflatable Tube and Pipe Weld Purging Systems are at risk of over-inflating during the weld purging process. As the heat caused by welding rises, the inflatable dams can expand beyond their safe limits and in addition, other personnel working near the welding area can vary the gas flow or pressure at random, causing over-inflation and bursting.

Once a burst occurs, the purge is lost and the weld will immediately oxidise in the presence of incoming air. The welder will then have to cease welding, grind out the oxidation and start the whole process again. On pipes below 36” diameter, the inside may not be accessible and the total joint may need to be cut out, leading to lengthy delays and high add-on costs.

To prevent such bursts, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® has designed and now manufactures a PurgeGate® Valve System in order to prevent any over-pressurising of Inflatable Tube and Pipe Weld Purging Systems.

Block Pipes Instantly and Effectively with Pipestoppers®

02W-Pancake-Inflatable-Pipe-StoppersBlocking pipes in order to carry out routine maintenance, repair work or even for weld purging is easy with Pipestoppers®.

The Pipestoppers® Division at Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® design and manufacture a range of Mechanical and Inflatable Pipestoppers® and Plugs to suit every application. Their newest addition to the Inflatable Pipestoppers® Range is the Pancake Stopper, for applications where insufficient length of pipe is available for the regular Cylindrical or Spherical Stopper.

Ron Sewell, Chairman at HFT® said: “With their low profile, the Pancake Stopper can fit into a pipe end that may be directly on an elbow or just inside a flanged neck on a casting. Other applications include blocking pipe ends to keep gases inside or to keep debris and vermin out.

Fast Purging of Heat-Treated Pipework

04W-HotPurgePreHeatedPipeworkPurgeSystemsChrome steel pipe joints, such as those used in the power industry for high pressure, high strength pipework, need to be pre-heated for welding and also require a post weld heat treatment. Equally, some high strength stainless steel weld joints need to undergo similar heat-treating cycles.

Weld joints of this nature need to be purged of oxygen and welded in an inert atmosphere, to prevent the oxidation that would otherwise lead to loss of corrosion resistance and imperfections in the joint metallurgy.

With the high temperatures and length of time at such temperatures, most weld purging systems are unsuitable. However, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® have developed HotPurge® Inflatable Pipe Purging System for Heat Treated Chrome and High Strength Stainless Steel Pipe Joints where the temperatures might be as high as 760OC (1,400 OF) for many hours.
