Remote Monitoring of Weld Purge up to 1 km away

Now, for the first time, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® makes it possible to have an immediate reading of the weld purge gas at the underside of the joint, from any distance up to 1,000 metres away with their PurgEye® 1000 Weld Purge Monitor®.

Back by popular demand, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® have re-initiated the manufacturing of the TEG-2 Tungsten Electrode Grinder, which retired from their product range a number of years ago, under the new name of TEG-1000.

Introducing PurgeNet™ and Accessories

Allowing joints to oxidise when welding then involves mechanical or chemical oxide removal to prevent to loss of corrosion resistance at best and metallurgical imperfections at worst. Oxidation can be prevented by using a Weld Purge Monitor® to verify purge quality prior to the commencement of welding.

Now, Weld Purge Monitors® are available with PurgeNet™, a networking device which is manufactured as standard to five of the PurgEye® Monitors manufactured by Weld Purging Experts Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT®.

PurgeNet™ is used for communicating the current oxygen reading from a PurgEye® Weld Purge Monitor® to another piece of equipment, such as the visual warning accessory PurgeAlarm™ or a Dew Point Monitor with additional inter-pass temperature monitoring.

Weld Purging for Closing Welds

One solution that welders have traditionally devised has been to construct homemade foam or paper dams that are placed either side of the weld, constricting the purge volume to make weld purging times shorter.

Homemade foam or paper purge dams have severe technical limitations that can lead to loss of welds when they leak or slip from position thus flooding the welding zone with oxygen.

Low Cost Weld Purge Monitor®

MKV Monitor, Mark V weld purge monitor, weld purging, oxide free welds, stainless steel weldingWeld Purging is the act of removing oxygen from the vicinity of a weld before, during and after welding. The weld zone is usually confined, with the oxygen level being monitored to ensure it is reduced to a level where welds and their heat affected zones will not be affected by oxygen, leading to loss of corrosion resistance properties. For stainless steel, this is usually lower than 100 parts per million (ppm).

In order to measure the oxygen content, a Weld Purge Monitor® is used, avoiding the need to guess when the oxygen level is low enough to begin welding. Inflatable Pipe Purging Systems for Zero Colour Welds

purgelite, weld purging, back purging, oxygen purging, stainless steel weldingProducing zero colour tube and pipe welds when joining metals such as stainless, duplex and chrome steels, titanium and zirconium can be challenging and at times can prove costly. In many industries today the welding zone has to be purged of oxygen down as low as 100 ppm, or even lower in industries such as the Dairy Industry, where food and beverage products are passing through them.

The tubes and pipes must be free from oxidation and discolouration to produce metallurgically sound welds and prevent corrosion and in addition, be welded with a good internal profile to prevent entrapment.

It most cases, it is not cost effective to fill entire tubes and pipes with an inert gas before, during and after welding.
