Repeatable Strikes Everytime!

Techweld® MultiStrike®Tungsten Electrodes represent the highest quality, totally traceable, longest lasting and are the most reliable tungsten electrodes on the market allowing welding of steels and alloys with DC as well as aluminium with AC techniques giving narrower, lower heat input welds.

multistrike, tungsten electrode, thoriated tungsten, safer welding, red tipped tungstens

MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes produce a 10 times greater number of arc strikes, over conventional thoriated tungsten electrodes under the same conditions and provide a stable performance over the current range from 0 - 300 Amps.

MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes have been developed with the health and safety of the end user in mind.

Eliminate the radiotoxic thoria that is present in standard red tipped tungsten electrodes. Replace your lanthanated tungsten electrodes and thoriated tungsten electrodes for MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes.

Tungsten Electrodes for TIG welding and Tungsten Electrodes for GTAW welding should be non-radiotoxic, non-thoriated, non-carcinogenic.

These health and safety electrodes will strike 10 times more arcs than a red tipped thoriated tungsten when tested under identical conditions.

Our Tungsten Welding Electrodes carry a total traceability identification.

Non Carcinogenic, Non Radio-Toxic

01W-MultiStrikesTungstenElectrodes

MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes can be used for welding of steels and alloys with DC as well as aluminium with AC techniques and provide a stable performance over the current range from 0 - 300 Amps.

The carefully balanced mix of non-radiotoxic dopants used in Techweld® MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes will give you up to 10 times the number of arc strikes, over conventional 2% thoriated tungsten electrodes under identical conditions.

These MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes are:

• Non-Thoriated
• Non-Radiotoxic
• Non-Carcinogenic

In addition, MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes lower the working temperature giving narrower, lower heat input welds. The number of arc strikes is increased before re-grinding is needed.

Techweld MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes have been developed with the Health and Safety of the end-user in mind.

MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes are totally traceable tungsten electrodes identified by a batch number and shown on our special packaging.

Immediate delivery is available for MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes.

Guaranteed Quality with Traceability

On the left: Conventional 2% thoriated tungsten electrode after 10 arc strikes. On the right: Techwald® Multistrike® Tungsten Electrode after 200 arc strikes.

Techweld® MultiStrike®Tungsten Electrodes consist of a unique blend of dopants to allow them to perform at high, low and medium current ranges with TIG (GTAW) welding of steels, nickel and cobalt based materials, as well as titanium and aluminium alloys.

This unique blend of dopants greatly enhances electrode life by significantly increasing the number of arc strikes before re-grinding is necessary, generating an up to 10 times better performance from MultiStrike® Tungstens compared with thoriated tungsten electrodes.

In the photographs on the right you see a conventional 2% thoriated tungsten electrode after 10 arc strikes and on the right you see the Techweld® Multistrike® Tungsten Electrode after 200 arc strikes.

No Radio-Toxic Contents

Those who are uncertain of the true effects of red tipped thoriated tungsten electrodes can look at these measurements made by a radiation monitor. The difference in the readings can be seen clearly. Red tipped thoriated tungsten electrodes have over 60 times greater radiation output than the normal level existing in the environment.

MultiStrikes Tungsten Electrodes Multi Strikes non Thoriated TungstensAsk your health and safety department to measure the radiation output from 10 packs of thoriated tungstens together. They should have a monitor that will show you a similar result.

Here at Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT®, your safety is our priority. Recognising the risk to health posed by the radiotoxic red tipped thoriated tungsten electrodes, we have developed MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes that are free from the potentially harmful thoria.

The red tipped thoriated tungsten contain thorium, a naturally occurring radioactive element incorporated into tungsten welding rods by a sintering process to improve their working properties. Thorium is a highly radiotoxic material and the main hazard is associated with inhalation of dust particles generated during tip grinding.

The radioactive meter tests, which show the radiation levels of 60 units or more for thoriated tungstens also shows that MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes produce near to a zero radiotoxic level because of the mix of non-radioactive rare earth elements.

Whether you are an employer who is looking after the Health and Safety of your employees and others, or if you are a welder concerned about the carcinogenic effects of conventional thoriated tungsten electrodes, you may wish to consider the safer alternative, Techweld® MultiStrike® Tungstens (MST).

The exact ingredients of MultiStrike® are part of the intellectual property of Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® who have carried out extensive research and development to bring a quality product to the market place that is totally traceable, reliable and repeatable.

The unique packaging gives a guarantee of product quality, reliability, repeatability, consistency and traceability.

MultiStrike® Tungstens conform to the rules and regulations of EN ISO 06848 and ANSI/AWS A5 12m-98.

Some Specific Background and Science

The work function of a metal or alloy is the energy needed to remove an electron from Fermi level in the material to a point at an infinite distance outside the surface.

This is relevant to TIG welding since the lower the work function of an electrode, the lower the voltage necessary to strike an arc.

The work function of tungsten is 4.35 ev. Therefore, the addition of a stable metal oxide with a work function lower than pure tungsten, lowers the work function of the tungsten.

Thorium's work function is 3.4 ev.

The special blend of dopants in MultiStrike® has a work function of 2.9 ev.

Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT®'s special blend of dopants along with its stringent in-house production specification ensure that the dopant is distributed evenly through the Techweld® MultiStrike® maintaining an even performance from start to finish.

See what our Users have to say....

multistrike tungsten electrodesDefinitely the safest way, along with increased productions. What more would you want?

William MacMillan, PCT Group

MultiStrike Tungsten ElectrodesBeen trying out some some MultiStrike tungsten electrodes from Huntingdon Fusion and have to say I’m impressed with how long they stay sharp for, welding on 170 amps with a 2.4mm tungsten and satill looks like I just sharpened it, won’t be using anything other than these in the future."

Frequently Asked Questions

multistrike tungsten electrode, there free tungsten, green tungsten, blue tipped tungsten, huntingdon fusion

1. We see and hear that there are other thoria-free ‘ecological’ tungstens available at lower prices than MultiStrikes®?

The MultiStrike® trademark has become an international industry standard.

When buying MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes you are purchasing a consistent, guaranteed, reliable, traceable product which will not vary and let you down in production. Many cheaper tungstens may have unreliable sources.

The MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes tip colour is known as ‘House Blue’, immediately distinguishable from any other tungsten and is part of the Trademark of Huntingdon Fusion Technqiues HFT®.

2. My latest order of MultiStrike® are not in their usual package, rather in a blue plastic tray with a clear top.

These are NOT MultiStrike®. Please notify us of the name of your distributor and we will try to rectify the problem and send you correctly packaged MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes.

3. What is in MultiStrike® Tungstens Electrodes to make them so good?

MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes contain a blend of rare earth dopants to replace thoria. Our dopants are not radioactive and they are mixed in accurate proportions using statistical proportional control procedures, fully computerised to ensure that the tungstens are made to the same high standards every time.

4. Will you tell me what materials you use inside MultiStrike® Tungstens Electrodes?

The exact ingredients of MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes are part of our intellectual property gained by extensive research and development to bring a quality product to the market place that is totally traceable, reliable and repeatable.

5. Can MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes be used to weld aluminium with AC welding?

Yes, MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes are used widely and successfully for welding aluminium.

6. I tried MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes but I got tungsten inclusion in the weld.

Tungsten inclusions can be generated by poor grinding techniques or accidental dipping of a tungsten electrode into the weld pool.
Tungsten inclusions can be obtained when using any kind of tungsten electrode.

7. I have tried MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes but they make my welds dirty.

MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes are used to generate an arc. They cannot make a weld dirty. Dirty welds are produced by either insufficient gas coverage, disturbance of the gas flow or dirty and contaminated material being welded.

8. You said I would get 10 times more arc strikes than a thoriated tungsten, but mine only lasted two welds before I had to re-grind it.

MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes will give ten times better performance than thoriated tungstens under identical conditions. Welding conditions will affect the life of all tungsten electrodes equally.

However, if a thoriated tungsten electrode is put onto an automatic machine welding with clean components and it gives 20 arc strikes before it fails, then a MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes will give 200 arc strikes.

9. I’m worried about the dust generated when I grind MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes.

Because MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes do not contain thoria or any other radiotoxic materials, the dust generated is not carcinogenic.

However, any local health and safety standards about the generation and collection of dust should be observed however.

10. Is there a classification for MultiStrike® as with most other electrodes?

MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes conform to Standards EN ISO 06848 and ANSI/AWS A5 12m-98.
