This raises additional reasons for not using foam.

Colin's comments are:

"Some pipe welding companies I've worked for buy in sheets of thick foam and the dams then have to be hand made (sometimes badly)."

"The rubber seal type always give a better seal and are more durable to heat." "Burning foam dams release fumes that are not healthy for a high purity weld or the welder. "

The use of Copper Nickel is still widespread in marine applications, where the corrosion resistant properties of this alloy are valuable.

Copper Nickel pipework on submarines, other military vessels, oil production platforms and other ships need many welded joints.

One of the key applications is in water sprinkler systems where the weld quality is as critical as it might be in any marine application.

Correct weld purging is a key factor in welding Copper Nickel pipework.

Back purge gas type tends to be optional subject to experience.

CEO of Huntingdon Fusion Techniques, HFT® wins Award.

Georgia GascoyneAs reported earlier, HFT®, together with Forgeweld Limited recently joined in a welding seminar at Doosan Babcock, under the auspices of the TWI Midlands Branch, to make a technical presentation about "Weld Purging".

The presentation was received very well because of the large number of interested parties in this subject, based in the Midlands area.

After many TWI Branch presentations carried out by HFT® personnel, this is the first time such an award has been given.

Thank you Kevin of Forgeweld, as well as the TWI midlands branch for putting on such a great event and thank you Doosan Babcock for being great hosts.

HFT Sponsored Burry Port Rugby Club wins Swalec Championship Title

burryport champions01Today Burry Port RFC lifted the SWALEC Welsh Championship Division 6 West trophy (Saturday 26th April 2014) after beating Myndd Y Garreg by 26 points.

Having sealed their title triumph with a 43-17 home win over Myndd y Garreg RFC, Burry Port carried off the SWALEC Championship Trophy after winning all but one of the league games that they've played this season.

Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT has been proud to have been associated with Burry Port RFC for some years so to see our sponsered club having this year's success is really gratifying.

We could not be more pleased for the club. 

After a rather turbulent season last year, the team was determined to have a more successful 2014 and following the appointment of new coach Gareth Gravell, who joined Burry Port from Neath RFC, the squad has gone from strength to strength.

Another Great Exhibition at the Techni-Show in Holland

Technishow01Another great exhibition. Huntingdon Fusion Techniques, HFT® participated in the 'Technishow' in Holland assisting our Exclusive Distributor, Pipeq Pipework Equipment.

Rob van der Heijden, Managing Director, Exclusive Distributor and Partner of Pipeq Pipework Equipment confirmed that this was his best show ever, indicating that indeed our long economic slow down maybe on the increase, as our own monthly figures are showing.

Rob went on to say that he took orders for various projects that he had been working on and that we can expect for orders from him imminently.

There were hundreds of visitors to the stand over the 3 days of the show causing our delegate from HQ, Luke Keane, to have to make hundreds of demonstrations of our PurgElite® and QuickPurge® II Pipe Purging Systems along with our PurgEye® 100 IP65 Rated Weld Purge Monitor®.

This is a way to increase the sensor life significantly with this new storage method.

Spare sensors are packed at source inside a small sealed compartment to prevent oxygen from entering.

Once the tiny amount of oxygen inside the sealed volume has been consumed, a partial vacuum has been created just leaving the residual atmospheric nitrogen behind that protects the sensor and leaves it inert until the package is opened for use.

In this way, the average life has been raised close to 20 months or more.

PurgEye® 100 Weld Purge Monitor® not only have a "low sensor" warning signal, which normal oxygen monitors do not have, but you know that when your replacement sensor arrives that it will last much longer than any other oxygen monitors.

HotPurge™ Pipe Purging Systems for pre-heated Pipe Welding

HotPurge Pre Heated Pipework Purge SystemsThick wall chrome steel pipe joints, as used in the power industry for high pressure high strength pipe work, need to be pre-heated for welding and probably need a post weld heat treatment too.

Weld joints of this nature need to be purged of oxygen and welded in an inert gas atmosphere, to prevent oxidation, slag formation etc., that leads to loss of corrosion resistance and undesirable change to the metallurgy.

With the high temperatures and length of time at temperature needed in the pre-heat, weld and post heat treat cycles, most weld purging systems are unsuitable.

However, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques, HFT®, has now developed "HotPurge™" Pipe Purging Systems, for use up to 300ºC (572ºF) for 24 hours. (The material used is rated up to 700ºC (1,292ºF)

With the growth of Nuclear Power activities around the world, there will be a large volume of stainless steel pipework that will need to be welded.

The pipe joints will need to be started with a much higher weld purge quality than many operators are familiar with and those welds will need to be planned well in advance to consider the joining and purging methods.

Until now, weld purging has often been left to the last minute as a procedure that the operators deal with at the time.

This can lead to the use hastily home made devices that will bring contamination into the nuclear environment and difficulties in accessing spaces for satisfactory weld purging.
