Weld Purging Best Practices for the Nuclear Industry.
With the growth of Nuclear Power activities around the world, there will be a large volume of stainless steel pipework that will need to be welded.
The pipe joints will need to be started with a much higher weld purge quality than many operators are familiar with and those welds will need to be planned well in advance to consider the joining and purging methods.
Until now, weld purging has often been left to the last minute as a procedure that the operators deal with at the time.
This can lead to the use hastily home made devices that will bring contamination into the nuclear environment and difficulties in accessing spaces for satisfactory weld purging.

Merry Christmas to all Customers, Partners and Distributors
Just a few weeks ago, whilst at the AWS FabTech Show in Chicago, our CEO, Georgia Gascoyne, was privileged to meet Santa himself.....!
So on that note, we would like to thank all our customers and distributors for a wonderful 2013. With your ongoing support and loyality.
We have achieved another excellent year and will continue to strive for 'excellence' in our service commitment to you.
2014 will be a great success for us all with good health and properity.
Season greetings from all of us at Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® and all the very best for the New Year.
Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas
For a stainless steel pipe welding job with just under 17,000 joints from 6 - 36" diameter, it was found that a gas savings of almost 7 million litres of Argon were made, when comparing old fashioned weld purging products with modern day products like the QuickPurge®II System.
A return on investment document has been created showing savings, weld by weld, so that operators can extrapolate to make their own calculations.
With such dramatic savings, operators can apply their own Argon or Helium gas costs to assess the
savings that they could make with the QuickPurge®II system.
The full ROI (Return on Investment) analysis document is available on request from Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT®.
Coinciding with Fabtech 2013 in Chicago, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques (HFT®) is launching the most revolutionary Pipe Weld Purging System ever QuickPurge® II.
The original QuickPurge® concept was devised between HFT® and Mitsui Babcock just over ten years ago for the isle of grain stainless steel pipeline across the south of England.
Now, after the phenomenal success of this concept of weld purging, HFT® has added a whole new raft of improvements:
Probably the most significant development ever for inflatable weld purge systems is PurgeGate™.
This extremely clever device will prevent the inflatable dams from ever bursting due to over inflation or over pressurisation.
Why should you use Inert Gas Purging when welding Stainless Steel, Titanium and Nickel Alloys?
Preventing oxidation and thus avoiding discolouration and weld underbead discontinuities in tubes and pipes can be achieved readily by purging the inside with inert gas. This simple procedure saves both time and cost, both of which can be considerable. Consider the thoughts of one specialist;
'It's difficult persuading our supervisors to allow us to take the time to purge lines during the welding process! Instead, engineers weld the lines, then use a die grinder with a flapper wheel to clean the "grapes" off the inside of the pipe! What an incredible waste of time.
Purging really makes more sense in the long run, especially since products going through these lines get snagged or contaminated.
The troubleshooting process is confused because the pipe fitter may not see the correlation, nor does the machine operator unless there is good exchange of information!'

The PurgEye® Having been manufacturing Tube and Pipe Weld Purging Systems since 1975 Huntingdon Fusion Techniques® (HFT™) has evolved the science of Weld Purging to new levels.
Along with other recently announced scientific developments in its Weld Purge Monitor® series, the Company has now reached the Fifth version of its Tube and Pipe Weld Purge System designs by launching the new PurgElite® range of Tube and Pipe Weld Purging systems for diameters from 1" to 24" diameter inclusive.
These systems are suitable for all industries using tubes and pipes from the very highly specialist Biogas and Semiconductor fields, right along to other industries such as those where the pipework is less critical.
In particular, PurgElite® systems can be used in high quality tube and pipework where the internal surfaces may be polished to ensure minimum entrapment and low corrosion resistance. With the new IntaCal® specially designed in line purge valve and the synthetic hose protection, there are no metal parts to scratch the tube or pipe surfaces.
Cheering a super team player during our visit
Top performance and star player, not only in the sales of HFT Products, seen in action is Troy Palmer on the Tennis Court, ready and waiting for game playing.
Huntingdon Fusion Techniques (HFT) was proud to participate in cheering Troy during a visit with their longtime Partner in the US, COB Industries Inc.
What a super team player to have in field of weld purging.....!
Our programme of visiting all our Partners and Exclusive Distributors is very important and paramount to success.
Chairman, Ron Sewell of Huntingdon Fusion Techniques is proud to celebrate business and longevity with US Partner, Cletus O'Brien, President of COB Industries.
Argweld® Pipe Purging Systems and Argweld® PurgEye® Weld Purge Monitor® Offer Tremendous 'RETURN ON INVESTMENT' (ROI)
Argweld® PurgEye® and Weld Purge Monitors® together with PurgElite® and Quick Purge® Inflatable Pipe Purging Products usually pay for themselves in the first one or two days.
These great products offer thousands of Dollars in savings over the course of a job.
A huge Return on Investment (ROI).
Have a look at the great savings!
Reduced purge time means reduced man-hours (labour costs / overhead)
Example: Welding 10" SS pipe
- Normal time required to purge 10" pipe is usually 45 minutes or more per weld.....
- Purge Time with Quick Purge® is about 3 minutes...
- Quick Purge® systems would conservatively save 30 minutes of labor PER WELD
If the job involves (20) 10" joints (welds) the Weld Purge Monitor@ products would save 10 man-hours.
If the job involves 100 welds there would be a saving of 50 man hours.
The PurgEye® 300 Nano Weld Purge Monitor® which was launched for the first time in 2012, has been updated to now read right down to 1 part per million (ppm) using a new style Zirconia sensor.
In spite of this stunning update, this attractively priced instrument remains at the same lowest cost anywhere for any other instruments measuring Oxygen levels down to 1 ppm.
Designed specifically for Personnel in welding and quality departments, who are responding to the latest quality control standards for lower oxygen levels, this new PurgEye® 300 Weld Purge Monitor® is suitable for weld purging of all Stainless, Duplex and Super Duplex steels as well as Titanium, Zirconium and Nickel alloys.
The PurgEye® 300 Nano makes an excellent stepping stone for those people who are entering the field of manufacturing with exotic alloys, obviating the need to purchase the more expensive instruments with all of the advanced features, that are needed by the established companies in the field.

CryoGas International publishes HFT Success
Huntingdon Fusion Techniques (HFT), in combination with their US Partners COB Industries Inc, were in attendance at this years's FABTECH Show and drew a lot of attention to their booth with the company's new Argweld® Quick Purge® II Pipe Purging System.
The system has an innovative low profile purge valve to avoid scratching polished metal surfaces that can cause loss of corrosion resistance.
HFT's new PurgElite® series of Tube and Pipe Purging Systems are also fitted with the low profile valve.
The response of the company's Argweld® PurgEye®, part of Huntingdon's Family Series of Weld Purge Monitors®, proved that the market wants the ability to choose the proper Weld Purge Monitor® for each job measuring in parts per million, not simply in percentage.
