Increase the Sensor Life significantly

This is a way to increase the sensor life significantly with this new storage method.

Spare sensors are packed at source inside a small sealed compartment to prevent oxygen from entering.

Once the tiny amount of oxygen inside the sealed volume has been consumed, a partial vacuum has been created just leaving the residual atmospheric nitrogen behind that protects the sensor and leaves it inert until the package is opened for use.

In this way, the average life has been raised close to 20 months or more.

PurgEye® 100 Weld Purge Monitor® not only have a "low sensor" warning signal, which normal oxygen monitors do not have, but you know that when your replacement sensor arrives that it will last much longer than any other oxygen monitors.

HotPurge™ Pipe Purging Systems for pre-heated Pipe Welding

HotPurge Pre Heated Pipework Purge SystemsThick wall chrome steel pipe joints, as used in the power industry for high pressure high strength pipe work, need to be pre-heated for welding and probably need a post weld heat treatment too.

Weld joints of this nature need to be purged of oxygen and welded in an inert gas atmosphere, to prevent oxidation, slag formation etc., that leads to loss of corrosion resistance and undesirable change to the metallurgy.

With the high temperatures and length of time at temperature needed in the pre-heat, weld and post heat treat cycles, most weld purging systems are unsuitable.

However, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques, HFT®, has now developed "HotPurge™" Pipe Purging Systems, for use up to 300ºC (572ºF) for 24 hours. (The material used is rated up to 700ºC (1,292ºF)

The pipe joints will need to be started with a much higher weld purge quality than many operators are familiar with and those welds will need to be planned well in advance to consider the joining and purging methods.

Until now, weld purging has often been left to the last minute as a procedure that the operators deal with at the time.

This can lead to the use hastily home made devices that will bring contamination into the nuclear environment and difficulties in accessing spaces for satisfactory weld purging.

Preventing oxidation and thus avoiding discolouration and weld underbead discontinuities in tubes and pipes can be achieved readily by purging the inside with inert gas. This simple procedure saves both time and cost, both of which can be considerable. Consider the thoughts of one specialist;

 'It's difficult persuading our supervisors to allow us to take the time to purge lines during the welding process! Instead, engineers weld the lines, then use a die grinder with a flapper wheel to clean the "grapes" off the inside of the pipe! What an incredible waste of time.

Purging really makes more sense in the long run, especially since products going through these lines get snagged or contaminated.

The troubleshooting process is confused because the pipe fitter may not see the correlation, nor does the machine operator unless there is good exchange of information!'
